Last Day for the Holidays - Deborah

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would try to do a diet during the holidays.  So I am stopping.  I have been to 2 parties, have one this week, and will be traveling the rest of the year.

That's not working.

So, Charlotte and I have decided to start the Scarsdale Diet all over again on January 2, 2011.

See you then!

Day 11 - Deborah

Due to my extensive research on Dr. Scarsdale, I believe him to be right in that you can cheat on the diet and lose weight but you will lose nowhere close to what you would be losing if you didn't cheat.

I have been on the diet for 11 days now and lost 5 lbs.  Now granted it is 5 lbs. less that I weighed before going on the diet.  But I should be down 11 pounds.

And I have a Corporate Christmas dinner to go to in Hollywood this weekend.

In retrospect, the Holidays probably aren't the best time to go on a diet......

FRIDAY

Lunch:
Assorted cheese slices (preferably lowfat)

Spinach, all you want
One slice of protein bread, toasted
Coffee/Tea/Diet Soda/Water
Dinner: Fish or shellfish
Combination salad (any fresh vegetables desired, raw or cooked)
One slice of protein bread, toasted
Coffee/Tea/Diet Soda/Water

Day 10 - Deborah

Let's see.  Where should I start?  Should I start with the red wine that I fully needed after being trapped in my house for a week?  Or should I start with the intense craving for sugar once I had the red wine?  Or should I start with the late night run to the grocery store?  Or with the consumption of a chocolate eclair?  Which by the way was the most delicious chocolate eclair I have EVER eaten!  Or should I start with the Ice Cream Drumstick I ate after I had the red wine and the chocolate eclair?

It all started with these beautiful lamb skewers that I made:

Which was so right on Scarsdale!   And the red wine was a perfect compliment.  From there I lost it.  I had planned on waking up and seeing a 2 pound loss.  But with the ingestion of these wonderful foods, I woke up to the same weight I have been at for 3 days now.  Which means that I did lose 2 pounds but put 2 pounds back on with my food folly.

This morning I woke up and realized that this is exactly why I never lose any weight.  Regret, regret, regret.

But the black coffee this morning was just what I needed!

THURSDAY

Lunch:
Two eggs, any style (no fat used in cooking)
Low-fat cottage cheese
Zucchini, or string beans, or sliced/stewed tomatoes
One slice of protein bread, toasted
Coffee/Tea/Diet Soda/Water
Dinner: Roast, broiled or barbequed chicken (skin and visible fat removed before eating)
Plenty of spinach, green peppers, string beans
Coffee/Tea/Diet Soda/Water

Charlotte Day 4 - Hello World!!!

I have been on the diet for 4 days and lost 4 pounds!!! Yea!!!!
Today I went off the diet because my boss made me eat enchiladas at lunchtime.
Dinner I had grilled porkchops with green beans and tea.

Day 9 - Deborah

Weight stayed the same.  I noticed last week on hamburger night, the next day my weight stayed the same also.  Don't know what that is about but will see if next week the same thing happens.

I bought some new high density bread and absolutely HATE it toasted.  It tastes like a crispy old shoe.  Gonna have to throw it away.  I wish I could find Wheat Berry Bread.  I used to eat it all the time in Texas and I loved it.  It was very nutty flavored.  Don't think they carry it in California.

Will probably substitute chicken for the lamb tonight.  Can't ever find lamb out here.  Except for those little bitty lamb chops which seem such a waste.

I did the stairs again yesterday.  I did 10 flights which is a mile.  Need to do 2 miles.  Will have to work up to that.

WEDNESDAY
Lunch: Tuna fish or salmon salad (oil drained off)
with lemon and vinegar dressing
Grapefruit, or melon, or fruit in season
Coffee/Tea/Diet Soda/Water

Dinner:
Sliced roast lamb***, all visible fat removed
Salad of lettuce,tomatoes,cucumbers,celery
Coffee/Tea/Diet Soda/Water
*** Can be subsituted with fish, seafood, chicken or turkey, or veg protein

Day 8 - Deborah

Lost another pound.  Yeaaaa!

Last night I was really craving something sweet.  I had half a glass of grapefruit juice and that seemed to hold the cravings at bay.

Breakfast:  Grapefruit, black coffee, toast
Lunch:  Fruit salad, tea
Dinner:  Hamburger meat, salad, diet coke

I don't seem to mind sticking religiously to the diet during the week, but the weekends are dangerous territory.  This weekend we are going to Bob's Christmas Party at a Japanese Restaurant.  I have pre-ordered Salmon.  So, I will have to trim a few calories this week in order to compensate for that day.  I do plan on doing lots of dancing so that should work some of it off.

Just trying to get a right Net Net number at the end of 3 weeks!

Day 7 - Deborah

Gained back 2 pounds over the weekend.  I'm pretty sure much of that is water weight.  (Chips, guacamole, salsa, cheese dip, tostados)

But this morning I have great resolve to make it through the week.

Today we have:

Breakfast:  toast, black coffee, grapefruit
Lunch:  Turkey, tomatoes, tea
Dinner:  Shrimp, salad, toast, grapefruit, tea

What's not to like about that?

Day 6 - Deborah

Oh, and I ate a Tostado.

Will this day never end?????

Day 6 - Deborah

Well, tomorrow ain't gonna be pretty.

We had our traditional Sunday fare today.  Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Cheese Dip, Chips and Margaritas.
Not exactly your typical diet foods.

Too full for dinner, though Bob is fixing Beef Tostados.

Tomorrow, Monday, will be a good day to start the Scarsdale Diet again.

Yahooooo!

Day 6 - Deborah

I didn't even bother to weigh in this morning.  We were on the tall ship for the LA Harbor Christmas Boat Parade last night.  I was able to resist temptation from Popeyes Fried Chicken, Chili and numerous christmas cookies.  Only had one glass of white wine.

And then I came home.

Bob pulled out some Makers Mark Whiskey and it was so good that I had numerous coke and whiskey cocktails.  Then he cooked a Bertiloni Orange Chicken dish and I, of course, had to have some of that. Topped off with 2 biscuits!

So, this morning, I slept in.  I had my black coffee, toast and grapefruit juice.

I am skipping lunch due to the excessive calories consumed last night.

Dinner is steak and salad which I will be looking forward to.

Tomorrow morning I will see what damage the weekend did.

Day 5 - Deborah

Lost another pound!

I am thinking if you actually stay on the diet it really works!

Got up this morning and went to buy pure Grapefruit Juice.  Tired of peeling the grapefruit everytime I have to eat it.  Had my toast and black coffee, which I am now starting to enjoy.  And happens to be just the right amount of breakfast for me.

Lunch was skipped because I was running around with Bob.  But I had Luinner instead of Brunch. (Lunch and Dinner combined).

We are going on the Tall Ships tonight for the LA Harbor Christmas Boat Parade.  I am planning on having a glass or two or wine on the boat.  And maybe some chili.  But will try to watch the portions and not over- indulge too much.

We shall see what the scale says tomorrow!

Day 4 - Deborah

Didn't get to blog last night.  Went to the Terranea Tree Lighting.  But I did lose another pound.

I didn't eat lunch and dinner because I planned on having a nice evening with Bob at the resort which would normally include a couple of drinks and appetizers.  But it turns out that I only drank 3 sips of white wine.  So when I came home I ate a couple of pieces of ham and had a glass of water.

So my body thinks that it stuck to the diet.

Ha!

Day 3 Scarsdale - Deborah

Well, I may be on this one on my own.  Charlotte, Charlotte, where art thou?

Last night I had "plenty" of hamburger and roasted brussel sprouts and gained a pound back.  I guess I had too much "plenty".  Must be water weight.  I did notice that I only had coffee for breakfast, diet ginger ale for lunch and water for dinner.  Not exactly getting 8 glasses of water a day in.  Must work on that!

Thurday's Menu:
Breakfast - half a grapefuit, toast and black coffee
Lunch - 2 eggs, low fat cottage cheese, green beans, toast, tea or diet drink
Dinner - Chicken, spinach, green beans, bell peppers, tea or diet drink

20 flights of stairs equal 1 mile - so today I will do 40 flights of stairs.

Today I am going to work on portion control, even though you can eat "plenty".  But how in the world can one learn to eat sensibly if you eat "plenty"?  Though I guess it doesn't really matter as long as you are losing.  Rah, Rah, Losing!  Rah, Rah, Losing!  That's what I like to hear!

Since I am talking to myself I can go as crazy as I like.......

Day 2 Scarsdale - Deborah

Weigh in this morning - lost 3 lbs!!  Thank God for Scarsdale!

I did have a 15 minute intense craving for wine last night but I waited patiently until it went away.

Even though I realize I have my days mixed up and started Monday's diet on Tuesday, I believe I am going to do Tuesday's diet today.  Only because I want to eat hamburger tonight.  I am a little sick of eating ham and turkey.  Tomorrow I will get on track with Thursday's diet.  So it has finally come down to that.....What day is it?  Monday? Wednesday? Tuesday, Friday?  I don't know?!  Wow.

My diet today consists of:
Breakfast - half a grapefruit, toast, black coffee
Lunch - fruit salad and tea
Dinner - broiled hamburger, roasted brussel sprouts, tea

Oh, and the most important part!  This diet also requires a 2 mile walk every day.  I was not able to get to that yesterday but today I plan on walking 2 miles and doing 30 minutes of yoga.
